Delirium, Dementia, and Depression in Older Adults: Assessment and Care

This guideline has been developed to improve the screening assessment of older adults (65 years or older) for delirium, dementia and depression and to address the question of how best to care for those who have delirium, dementia and depression.

The guideline focuses on:
•Practice recommendations: directed at the nurse to guide practice regarding caregiving strategies for older adults with delirium, dementia and/or depression;
•Educational recommendations: directed at the educational institutions and organizations in which nurses work to support its implementation;
•Organization and Policy recommendations: directed at the practice settings and the environment to facilitate nurses’ practice;
•Evaluation and monitoring indicators.

This guideline will replace RNAO's 2010 guidelines Screening for Delirium, Dementia and Depression in the Older Adult and Caregiving Strategies for Older Adults with Delirium, Dementia and Depression.
